You cannot go back and forth between each question because if you do, you will run out of time. You need to read the passage and retain it enough to answer 90% of the questions without looking at it again. The most important thing for CARS is to know that you have to be efficient. I think CARS is something that is very difficult to prepare for, because it's so much about skills and nothing about content (unlike the rest of the exam). I have mostly done a mix of Kaplan and NS and I am overall pretty happy with that strategy. Both Kaplan and Next Step have a tendency to focus on details of content too much (especially on P/S). Next Step- In my opinion I think they're very similar to Kaplan as far as difficulty goes. Overall I think they're very good practice. They have a lot of pseudo-discrete passages. The only complaint is that they might no have enough questions about understanding passages. Also, the content that was asked about seemed very over the top and out of the scope of the mcat. It was unnecessarily hard and too content heavy.

TRP- I took the the free one on their website and it was pretty much a waste of my time. I've taken 3 Kaplan, 4 Next Step, and 1 Princeton.

If you do that then you'll get used to answering only those types of questions, and although similar, the logic will be a little different than AAMC. My advice would be that regardless of what company it is don't take 10 exams made by one company.
